Oak flooring - Sustainability & Grading

All of our flooring is supplied in European Oak and all of the boards are obtained from sustainable resources and certified as a FSC mixed product which ensures that at least 70% of the wood is chain of custody certificated.

Each board is carefully selected at source to create our character grade oak flooring. Within this grade each board offers interesting knots and subtle changes in grain. The grade is very consistent with knots ranging from 2-4cm in diameter, all of which are pegged with wood and/or filler. The overall effect once the boards are laid is a beautiful floor of pleasing and restrained character. In comparison to prime oak which is very bland and rustic which often includes unlimited defects we find that character grade oak is to most peoples taste.

Sizing & Specification

The widths we carry in stock are 160mm, 180mm and 200mm. These can be laid as a random width or uniform. We have both options laid in our showroom if you would like to see an example of this. The thickness is 21mm, tongue and grooved on all four edges, with a 1mm micro bevel along the long edges only. The engineered oak flooring that we offer has a 6mm top layer. The flooring is packed in 2.1m lengths, with 3 full boards and 1 split length. The length of this flooring makes it quick and easy to lay with the split board ensuring that you stagger the joints in the length.

Sanding & Finishing

All of our flooring is supplied pre-sanded ready to be oiled. Many will know who have laid a floor in the past, sanding is the worst job! Once the boards are laid the untreated oak can be stained and treated to your choice. Please see our finishes page for examples of what we offer.

Skirtings & Mouldings

Oak is a durable, hard wearing timber perfect for skirting to withstand daily knocks that occur in the home.

Skirting boards hide the expansion gap between the floor boards and the wall along with creating elegance to the room. Architrave is fitted either side of a Door, to cover the gap between the door lining and the plaster.

We supply our oak skirting and architrave in a character grade oak that is unfinished ready to be treated. We offer a range of Oil’s and Wax’s so you can achieve the perfect finish you are looking for.

Which Design

We offer the simple yet very popular Chamfer mould. This is our best seller as it sits perfectly in traditional and modern properties with the added value of it not being a “dust trap” like so many of the more intricate moulds of yesteryear. Torus and Ogee are also amongst our beautiful range of mouldings that can be seen in our gallery below or in our showroom.

Different Sizes

All of our skirting boards are available in 70mm, 100mm, 125mm, 150mm x 20mm thick. We can machine wider boards and sizes in-between to order. The finished thickness is 20mm or ¾”. They are supplied in random lengths ranging from 2.0m to 3.5m.

Architrave is supplied in sets. A set comprising of 2no 2.1m lengths and 1no 1.0m head 70 x 20mm section. Again this can be changed to suit your exact requirements.

A simple cover mould can also be machined to cover the gaps which would be less obvious if keeping the existing skirting boards in the room or finishing against beams etc.
